Power Outage Knitting
Knitting during a power outage is fun. Surrounded by candles listening to music or the radio. It really brings you back to the day before Netflix or on demand TV. It’s funny because as I type this, I am on my brand-new Surface Pro which was a slight impulse buy today. I’ve been wanting to buy a new tablet for a while. I currently own an iPad mini which works great but it’s not great for multitasking. I like to watch Netflix while knitting but the problem is that I can’t then look at the pattern at the same time. When I knit colorwork it can also be difficult to read the chart. Originally, I was looking at getting the iPad Air, but no one had the one I wanted in stock and I am impatient and didn’t want to wait a week or two to get it. The idea of a Surface then popped into my mind. This is much more like a laptop than a tablet, but I love it. It makes it easier to blog and do everything my laptop can do but it is so much lighter and does act like a tablet if I want it too.
Anyway, back to knitting in the dark. It really makes you realize how much we rely on technology for entertainment. When we are without it it’s like ah, what do we do?!? That is one of the reasons why I love cruising so much. It is really a way to get away from it all. When I cruise, I find I don’t miss it and enjoy the time away. I enjoy sitting on the balcony or somewhere on the ship and watching the ocean go by while knitting. My mind wanders and I get lost in the sea. Knitting during a power outage is sort of like that, there is no ocean to watch, but at least today in this 100+ degree heat it feels similar. Sitting in the back yard looking at the garden and knitting in my Adirondack chair. I hope our power comes back on soon, but if not that’s okay too. We have plenty of candles and a Giants game to listen to.
