2021 Knitting Goals
It’s that time of year again, time for my knitting resolutions/goals. I often never fully follow my resolutions or goals but really do try my hardest.
Of course, my number one goal as always is to knit from stash! I usually last about 6 months before I start buying yarn again. I do allow myself exceptions which is to buy base solid colors, although this year I have squirreled away lots of solid colors. I do allow myself to join clubs, at the moment I am a member of 3 clubs: Hedgehog Fibers, Traveling Yarn and Primrose Yarns. I have been a part of Traveling Yarn’s club since the creation of the club and don’t think that will change anytime soon. I love Hedgehog Fibers various clubs and have really trimmed down the amount of their clubs I am a part of which not only saves me money, but also allows my stash not to get too out of control. As for the Primrose Yarn club it is only 3 months and she changes her clubs so often it is a short term club. I have a feeling I will be making an exception for my newest obsession of Spincycle Yarns when they come out with new colorways. Fingers crossed I don’t go too nuts in my yarn spending.
Resolution number 2 is to finish all my current WIP’s before starting new projects. I of course allow myself my new year’s day cast on and any gifts that I need to knit but otherwise, no new projects! Last year I did a pretty good job of finishing all my projects before starting new ones. This year I have 7 WIP’s, yikes. Luckily I’m hoping to finish before the new year brining it down to 6 and one is a gift that hopefully won’t take too long to finish and is priority number 1. The other are at various stages of completion and hopefully I don’t drag my feet too much to get them finished.
My third goal is to publish some patterns. I recently started designing my own cowls. I don’t think I will ever design sweaters, that just seems too complicated, but I love cowls and it is a great way to play with colorwork or fun textures. I bought so many different stitch pattern books and colorwork books last year and it has been fun playing around with them. I was even able to design and knit one cowl but want to knit another one not only to make sure the gauge and everything is right but also to have two different sizes. I have a second design in the works, but really should complete one design and pattern before moving on to a second one. It’s a scary thought to publish a pattern but I think it is a challenge I am up for.
Besides that I think my resolutions are just to enjoy what I knit and to not be so critical of myself. I don’t want to knit something that I don’t enjoy or know I won’t wear, but to take a step back and realize it doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect 100% of the time.
