The Shifty Saga- part 3

Isn’t this saga over yet? Sadly, the answer is no, but there is light at the end of the tunnel I promise. At this point I have tried knitting Shifty in regular speckled fingering weight yarn and spent a small fortune on fancy handspun yarn and have not been successful in finding yarn that I like enough to knit the sweater. I have knit at least three yokes and frogged every single one of them and my frustration level is at an all time high. As I mentioned in part two, I ended up breaking down and ordering more Spincycle Yarn one day in a fit of madness. I was hoping that by ordering all new yarns it would give me a fresh start in colors that I loved instead of using colors way outside of my comfort zone. When the yarn came, I was so excited. I tore open the box and was instantly in love with the colors I had chosen, they were just “me” colors. I instantly unwound them up and fell even more in love with them, except for the main color that is. It had so much brown in it, my heart rate started to pick up, but never mind I assured myself it would be perfectly fine and got to knitting the yoke right away.

Big mistake, if I had just listened to my initial gut feeling I would have saved myself a load of heart ache. I assumed that although there was brown in some of the skeins it wouldn’t be that noticeable and it would be fine. Clearly, I have not learned from previous projects to listen to my gut instinct because of course as I got farther along in the yoke the brown really started coming through and I was yet again heart broken. Don’t get me wrong it is beautiful yarn and the colorway is truly breathtaking, but it just wasn’t what I was going for. Frustrated and disappointed I frogged yet again, truly at a loss for what to do. Should I throw in the towel and give up, try yet again with yarn I already had in different colors? I decided to keep ordering more yarn but this time only single skeins hoping to find ones that worked better with each other. I also did a lot of research on the yarn I was using looking at other people’s projects with the same colorways seeing how they knit up and looking at the variations in the skeins hoping that would help me find something that I was happy with.

Sigh, #knittingconfessions.
